QuickBooks or Zoho Books? Choosing Accounting Software for a UAE Business
The questions to ask before choosing accounting software for your UAE business, and how to get the set-up right so VAT and Corporate Tax reporting are easier later.

Good accounting software makes bookkeeping faster, reporting clearer and tax filing far less stressful. Our team works with both QuickBooks and Zoho Books, and the right choice depends less on the brand and more on how your business operates.
Start with your business, not the software
Before comparing features, answer these questions:
- How many transactions do you process each month? A consultancy with twenty invoices a month has very different needs from a trading company with hundreds.
- Do you hold inventory? If stock control matters, check how each system handles items, warehouses and cost of sales.
- Do you trade in more than one currency? Multi-currency invoicing and bank accounts need to be supported in your plan.
- Who will use the system? Consider how many users need access and what each person should be allowed to see.
- What other tools do you use? Point-of-sale, payroll, CRM and e-commerce integrations can save hours of manual entry.
Set it up for UAE tax from day one
Whichever system you choose, the set-up matters more than the brand:
- Configure VAT rates and tax codes correctly, including zero-rated and exempt supplies.
- Make sure your invoice templates meet tax invoice requirements and show your TRN.
- Build a chart of accounts that separates items you will need for Corporate Tax, such as entertainment costs and transactions with related parties.
- Connect bank feeds and reconcile every month.
A poorly configured system creates errors that surface months later in VAT returns and financial statements.
Switching systems
Moving from spreadsheets or another package is best done at the start of a financial year or VAT period. Plan which historical data to bring across, reconcile opening balances carefully, and run both systems briefly if possible.
